Introduction
Lots of committed professionals have told us that they know an increasing number of their service users are experiencing gambling harms, but they don’t have the tools and information they need to provide the right support. Chapter One offers training to professionals, in person or online.
Who is it for?
Training for providers of support including:
Adult social care and support workers
Substance misuse and alcohol services
Advice and support services, such as housing services and debt and financial inclusion teams
Criminal justice, police and probation officers
Bespoke training for healthcare professionals, including:
GPs and primary care nurses
Mental health practitioners and community health workers
Social prescribing link workers and community nurses

- Build an understanding of the risks and harms of gambling and how serious they are
- Be able to list the causes of gambling addiction – the role of the industry and the addictive nature of some gambling products
- Address stigma and prejudice, start to build empathy and belief that ‘it’s not the fault of the individual suffering gambling harms
- Build skills, confidence and knowledge so participants can identify if someone needs help and support
- Know how to ask the right questions and have a conversation about gambling
- Know where to go for information, specialist treatment and support. Help people take some simple steps now
